New to the pipes?

So you love Scottish music but have never played the pipes. No problem!

The Great Highland Bagpipe – as it’s officially known – isn’t the easiest instrument to play, but it is definitely one of the most thrilling. The Tulsa Metro Pipe Band gives free lessons for beginners – everyone from teens to folks in their 70s. One of the core elements of our mission is to help people take the first steps on the journey to becoming pipers. In order to fulfill that aim, we offer 10 30-minute lessons -- at no cost -- that cover the rudiments of enjoying and playing the Great Highland Bagpipe. These lessons are delivered in person each Tuesday evening before band practice, either individually or in small groups of students at a similar level of proficiency.

After completing this series of 10 lessons, most people have a firm foundation on which to build. For those who wish to continue learning, we offer individual 30-minute lessons at a nominal cost of $10 per lesson. For these, students make arrangements with one of our pipers directly.
